Faith and National Unity
Every nation builds up with its people. The people of a nation is one in the name of their nationality.
The culture, language, foods, celebrations, understanding everything are same and they know each
other’s mentality as well. But in a nation one thing is always different that is “ Religion “ . It is not a
negative thing to be like this. Because religion is to guide us towards morality and a good lifestyle which
relates us to our Creator. Some religion may guide people to fighting for self defense, protecting
corruptions, crime and to protect their religious faith which has very sensitive and deep circumstances
to apply. Only an expert and scholar of a religion can understand well the circumstances and conditions
where this serious rules of religion may apply but some narrow minded people use this motto of
fighting by misinterpreting the sentences of religious scriptures to kill people of other faith illegally.
People insult cowardly the people of other faith. But what a believer of one faith can do to the people
of other values is that they can say what is in their religious teachings with surety. But insulting and
killing the people of other faith without any fault is nothing but an uncivilized act. It creates disunity and
disrespect among the people of same nation and same citizenship. The people who are having the same
benefits and education in same land and their childhood goes with same color full memories turns to
hatred and disrespect in a manner that they did not know each other, because one does not have the
same faith of religion that other have. If the majority of the people are in same faith but minority of
them are in different faith then the minority does not get much benefits like others have. We cannot
under estimate and we cannot reject the fact that people love their faith and they love to live their life
according to their faith. So, to build up a developed and suitable nation for everyone religious tolerance
and the facilities for all faith should be an essential democratic government policy.
In a nation millions of people born, lives, works and build up their family ties. Their body color,
economy status, working and educational status is not same as well as their religious faith is also not
same. Because every people is not capable and interested to know the religion but they follow the
religion which they are in. Yes, many people are interested to learn their own religion and eventually
they love their religion and those people want to live, they want to do their job, maintain the family ties
and they want to enjoy their lives according to their faith but without harming and blaming other
people. So, in a country where there are living people of different faith needs to have rights for every
creed and colors which shall be applied practically in a nation for unity otherwise crime and intolerance
in the name of faith will not be solved. In the speech of Barak Obama “ A More Perfect Union “ contains
almost the same idea where he said, “ Yet, words on a parchment would not be enough to deliver slaves
from bondage, or provide men and women of every color and creed their full rights and obligations as
Citizens of United States. “ Where he is concern and thinking to give the rights and obligations of every
color and creeds. Disunity and crime in the name of religion is much more dangerous than the disunity
in the name of color and race. In the history we can see two remarkable incidents.
15 August 1947, the partition of India took place which was the partition of British Indian Empire that
led to the creation of that led to the creation of the sovereign states of the Dominion of Pakistan (it
later split into the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the People's Republic of Bangladesh)
and the Union of India (later Republic of India). UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner
for Refugees ) estimates 14 million Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims were displaced during the partition;
it was the largest mass migration in human history. In some places Hindu kill Muslims and Muslims
kill Hindu where they are in Majority from each group and kills the minority of other religion.
If we now go to the nearest past from this Partition of British Indian Empire we can see another
massacre by Adolf Hitler in Germany which was done on Jewish people. If we consider Judaism as
religion then without doubt that what Hitler did to the Jewish people had the reason that whoever
was the followers of Judaism children, woman, adult, young and elderly, was the target. It was
Inhuman. As the Martin Luther King Jr. said in his the “ Letter from Birmingham Jail “ that “We
should never forget that everything Adolf Hitler did in Germany was "legal" and
everything the Hungarian freedom fighters did in Hungary was "illegal." It was
"illegal" to aid and comfort a Jew in Hitler's Germany. Even so, I am sure that, had I
lived in Germany at the time, I would have aided and comforted my Jewish brothers.
If today I lived in a Communist country where certain principles dear to the Christian
faith are suppressed, I would openly advocate disobeying that country's antireligious
laws. “
Now, if we see in the present world it is very noticeable that after the Terrorist attack in 9/11
the general Muslims did face a lots of troubles and embarrassing situations. It was only because
perhaps some people claimed that they did this criminal attack in the name of religion Islam
which is not good at all and all the blame goes on the general Muslim people who did not do
anything. We must understand that every people may follow a religion and the crime is done by
a small amount of people of a country or society, so if a person claims that he is the follower of
so and so religion and he has done that for his religion then first of all it may be possible that
the claimer does not know properly what his religion actually teaches. So, the blame of other
person’s crime shall not go to the account of others. Then that will be an injustice.
This problem reaches it’s highest level of danger when Government starts killing and ridicule
the people of a particular faith. A Government may rule according to some religious teachings
that is good because religion teaches justice, honesty, rights and privileges but if governments
start killing and torture to the people of other faith without any crime, if a government starts
attacking and blocking the practice of other religion specially world’s four major religions: Islam,
Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism, where millions of people are the followers of these four
religion then the unity of a nation will be in danger. Because, in every sectors in office, business,
job, Universities, Scientific experiments, literature etc. which work for the development of a
nation consist of the people of every faith. So, if one faith is treated unjustly then the large
number educated and capable people of that particular faith will get humiliated then they
might feel unsecured to live in that country. So, a nation may loose a large number of
excellent citizens.
Lastly, it is very important to keep in our mind that we can not run a country without people
who has their own religious belief. Even the government officials also become the followers of
a religious group so, everybody shall have the advantage and rights to enjoy all the facilities of
their own religious lifestyle and practice in one country. In short, everybody must have the
rights to follow and practice their own religious belief completely in every sector of their life
and it is better if a government assured it with an active law for their respected citizens. Like it
shall be made illegal to humiliate any person because of their religion. If a crime is done in the
name of religion then government and law should not condemn the mass majority of the
followers of that religion but they shall only find the criminal who has done that. General
people shall take it easy to have the followers of other religion among them. A democratic
Government of any country shall not make any major to minor policy that hampers the rights of
the people of different religious faith. When a people of a religion wants to celebrate and want
to do the act of worship of their religion then they shall have the permission to do that easily
and in a manner that they feel that the country is their own and they may feel happy about
living in that country. Then an easy permission shall be given to build a religious place of
worship such as Church, Temple, Mosque etc. so that people can have their rights in full. None
the less military training and job shall also provide religious freedom so that all the people of a
country can be interested in this great service of a democratic country. If the policies are made
to solve the problems regarding religion and the misunderstanding that made in the name of
religion then all the people of a nation can think about other problems of a country like solving
poverty, having an economical development, spreading education and job opportunities etc.
because talent can be hidden in the brain of the followers of any religion. Above all for a better
nation it is very important that the people of a country shall love each other like a brother. As
American President Barak Obama said in his speech, “We the people, in order to form a more
perfect union.” I think it is the need for the people of every nation and every country that wants to
progress in their way.
