Critical Analysis of a YouTube Commercial “ Grameen Phone online
school “
Bangladesh is a Developing country of South Asia in Indian
Subcontinent. So, it is easily
understandable
that the country is progressing highly in some remarkable
sectors and still has some sectors that need to
be developed. The sector
of Bangladesh that is highly progressive from the beginning and which
contributes a lot to the country for its development is the
Telecommunication network. In this field the
largest telecommunication company that is working since 1997 is
Grameenphone.
Grameenphone is the largest telecommunication company in
Bangladesh that has partnership with the
Telenor mobile
telecommunication company of Norway, is
Founded by Iqbal Quadir, who is currently
an aim to provide mobile phone service to all over Bangladesh
including rural areas. it has so far
invested more than BDT 259
billion (USD 3.27 billion) to build the network
infrastructure since 1997.
It has invested over BDT 15
billion in 2014 alone. Grameenphone has over 8000 base station all
From the beginning Grameenphone used to be a
socially responsible company. It’s CEO and
officials always think about to give service to the
general people so that it can come closer to them
as an humble company. As a part of this it considers
education as one of the focus areas of Corporate
Responsibility
and wanted to find out a way to intervene through which quality education can
be ensured
particularly
in rural and remote areas . With this objective in mind it has launched ‘Online
School’
initiative. The idea of Online School is that the teacher conducts class
from a distant location using video
conferencing technology with the aid of
moderators in the actual class. These moderators, who are from the
local community, have no teaching background
but can help the teacher in operational issues. The main
objective of the Online School is to ensure
quality education for underprivileged and secluded children living
at the urban slums and remote areas of
Bangladesh. It also helps in developing the teachers who can deliver
quality education.
The Online School has three partners, namely
Jaago Foundation, Agni Systems Ltd. and Grameenphone Ltd.
Jaago Foundation, a nonprofit civil society
organization is responsible for providing on-ground support, run
operations of the schools, design and implement
the curriculum for different classes. Agni System Ltd.
provides last mile internet solution for the
schools for free of cost. Agni also provides technical support in
regards to internet connectivity to Jaago
Foundation for the initiative. Grameenphone provides financial and
backbone support for internet connectivity for
the initiative.
To promote this online
school in the TV channels of Bangladesh so that all the people can see and
understand the concept,
Grameenphone has launched a TV commercial to broadcast which takes
us near to the nature and
simple life of one of the remote areas of Bangladesh named Bandarban.
The Description of this
commercial is incredible where the main performer is a child of that area who
has lived the very simple
life related to nature that shows the authentication of the advertisement.
The detail scenario of the
advertisement is there is a kid whose name is Shikhor who is a kid from a
tribal region of Bangladesh
named Bandarban where the culture and language is a bit different from
the mainstream of
Bangladesh but they can understand Bengali language. The main focus is on his
activity. In the first
scene we can see hills on top and sky on downwards directions. After that it is
shown that the little boy
Shikhor is enjoying moving forward and backward inside a large tire which
was hanging with a tree by
a rope on top of a hill covered with green grass and the sky was cloudy.
So, the reverse scene of
the hill and the sky was the view of the kid. Then the kid is called by his
mother from his house and he run towards his house by
leaving the tire. The next scene is the kid is
running on the muddy road
of hill track where there is a house made by bamboo built in angular
direction which is usually
made by the people of those areas. After that we can see two old woman
is cutting grasses while
seating on a platform made by bamboo. Then the little boy Shikhor is seen
to have a bag of food
behind his back which was given by his mother to give to his father who is at
work and Shikhor then
walking on the hill road covered with green grasses and then on the watery
road where water is just up
to his ankle which was guarded by the hills on right and left sides.
Then we can see a beautiful
scene that the black cloud is gathered together and the rain falls and
the first drop was fallen
on the little cute cheeks of Shikhor. In the next scene we can see that the kid
is playing on a boat.
The boat is made of wood
and the boat is rowing by a man with an oar. The boat is rowing on a river
water which was covered
with fog. Then we can see that Shikhor is running on a pitched road which
is made over the hill and a
man on bicycle carrying news paper is coming toward Shikhor and then
crossed him and it was
already evening. It is understood that Shikhor has already done his job to
give food to his father and
after that he was with his own game running here and there and then in
the evening playing football
with his friends on a sand field near a river. Immediately after this scene
a beautiful scene of early
morning is shown. A green leaf which is shining by the sunlight. The
sunlight then crossing the
window of a wooden house and come on the face of little Shikhor who
was sleeping on the floor
of his house and the floor is made by wood. He then gets up wears his two
pairs of shoes and his
school uniforms and run towards the school where he with his other
classmates is taught
English lesson like A for apple, B for Ball etc. in a projector where we can
see a
female teacher is giving
instruction to them from the capital city Dhaka. And the entire teaching
session is done by the
internet service provided by Grameenphone. And the last scene is that
Shikhor is teaching his old
family members which he learnt from his school.
In this advertisement the
online school and the sunlight is compared to each other because both
have reached to the area of
the Kids like Shikhor who are living far from the capital city Dhaka and
stays in the remote area
like Bandarban. In this advertisement a background music was played
where the song is sung by a
voice of a small kid with it’s tribal language because the music was for
the little boy Shikhor.
Then we can also hear a male voice is describing the fact that in those remote
area of Bangladesh the life
is so simple that it takes half of the day to take a bag of food to a person
by his son from his home to
workplace and the daily Newspaper reached in those area in the
evening where everybody get
that in the early morning. Then the male voice told us that out of all
these simplicity the different is the morning where the
sunlight and the online school comes near the
doorway of the Kids on
those areas to give them education. This online school is operated by the
teacher from the capital
city Dhaka.
The purpose of this
commercial is to make people aware about the change that could come in
Bangladesh if every
children of every region gets education which is essential for a developing
country and this can be
done by using the internet service provided by Grameen Phone that is
spreading even in the
remote areas of Bangladesh. So Grameen Phone has kept their promise that
is a socially responsible
company and so this company always goes near to the general people. This
intention of this company
will also help to increase it’s subscribers because first people will find a
softness and compassion for
the company that it thinks about the country and it’s people and it
thinks about the education
of poor children which completes a little bit the requirement of pathos.
Then another subject that
comes very practically that if the company can provide internet to almost
every area of Bangladesh
then obviously the network is wide spreading and so the mobile phone
user will prefer to take
GrameenPhone network with them. This is Ethical that grameen phone has
made this advertisement for
online school because Grameen Phone is a telecommunication network
service and it supplies
internet, it has the financial capability to arrange required materials and
tools
to achieve this aim so
ethos has it’s place here completely. Eventually by using the internet service
of GrameenPhone it is
logically very strong that online school can be run very successfully in every
remote areas of Bangladesh
and a quality education can be provided to the children of every society
which is their right and
beneficial for Bangladesh and logos of this commercial is fulfilled.
Education is a must for a
country which wants to develop to it’s highest. In Bangladesh there are a
lots of poor people and
their children has no financial ability to go the capital city Dhaka to have
better education. So, when
socially responsible organization like grameen phone, jaago foundation
and Agni Systems works
together to give a quality education to the poor children then money is not
a problem for education for
them where good teachers and school system can provide regular
education to the children
and the children will recognize the benefits of technology. This online
school is not only for the
poor people but university education system in Bangladesh can also use
online school service for
the people who wants to continue their university education with their jobs.
So, a very important
awareness is done by making this commercial in support of grameen Phone
online school.
